Our History

In 1922, when The Dover Tank & Plate Company was founded, time was slower paced. There was a commitment and attitude about the way work was done. No surrender to careless workmanship. No acceptance of poor quality. No compromise in meeting commitments. A tradition was started at Dover Tank over eighty years ago and today that tradition still lives on in our commitment to excellence. Two key individuals, Bernard F. Lawless and Neal Lawless created the Dover Tank and Plate Company. This father-son team of Irish descent came to Dover with little or no money, property, or equipment. But, they had a dream to create their own company, utilizing the skills learned through years of hard work and experience as boilermakers and fabricators. They built a small shop in Dover to fabricate steel and in the process earned a reputation throughout the state of Ohio for excellent quality workmanship. Though Bernard F. and Neal have since passed on, Dover Tank remains committed to manufacturing outstanding products that established our position as a premiere Ohio fabricator. That same commitment has passed to further generations through Bernard J. Lawless to the current owners and managers, his sons Earl, David, Joseph and Luke Lawless.
